Berdasarkan Keputusan Menteri Agama Republik Indonesia Nomor 483 Tahun 2024, Institut Agama Islam Agus Salim (IAIAS) secara resmi beralih status menjadi Universitas Islam Lampung (UNISLA). Keputusan tersebut ditetapkan pada tanggal 24 Mei 2024 dan menjadi momen yang sangat dinanti oleh sivitas akademika, alumni, serta masyarakat Lampung yang telah lama mendukung peningkatan status kelembagaan ini.
Perubahan status ini merupakan hasil dari upaya panjang dan komitmen kuat seluruh elemen kampus dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan, pengembangan sumber daya manusia, serta kontribusi terhadap pembangunan bangsa melalui pendidikan tinggi berbasis keislaman. Dengan status baru sebagai universitas, UNISLA memiliki kewenangan yang lebih luas dalam pengelolaan pendidikan dan pengembangan keilmuan, termasuk dalam membuka program studi baru yang relevan dengan kebutuhan zaman dan masyarakat.
UNISLA saat ini membawahi dua fakultas utama sebagai fondasi awal pengembangan keilmuannya. Fakultas Tarbiyah menjadi pilar utama dalam pendidikan keagamaan dengan empat program studi: Pendidikan Agama Islam, Manajemen Pendidikan Islam, Pendidikan Guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (PGMI), dan Pendidikan Bahasa Arab. Fakultas ini diharapkan mampu mencetak tenaga pendidik dan akademisi yang tidak hanya unggul secara akademik, tetapi juga kuat dalam nilai-nilai spiritual dan moral.
Selain itu, Universitas Islam Lampung juga memiliki Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis Islam serta Syariah, yang terdiri dari dua program studi unggulan yaitu Ekonomi Syariah dan Hukum Keluarga Islam.
